Canon extends its environmental grants program deadline

Applications close 16 September

“There’s still time to submit your ideas on how our products can be used to benefit environmental and community-based projects”

Canon Australia has extended the closing date for applications for its annual environmental grants program to 16 September. Each year five $5,000 grants of Canon products are awarded to projects or organisations that can demonstrate the greatest positive impact for the Australian environment and community.

“We’re crowd sourcing ideas for the best ways in which our products can be used to benefit our environment and there’s still time for organisations or individuals to share their imaginative ideas with us,” said Janet Leslie, Quality, Safety & Environment Manager, Canon Oceania.

Selection is based on the environmental merits of each group’s nominated project, as well as the importance of the digital imaging products that make up the grant in realising its success. Each of the five recipients will have their choice of $5,000 of Canon equipment – including digital compact and DSLR cameras, video cameras, binoculars, projectors, multi-function devices and water-proof cameras.

Last year’s grants have helped support conservation programs by the Royal Zoological Society of South Australia, Reef Life Survey and Rainforest Rescue and sustainability initiatives run by South East Queensland (SEQ) Catchment and the Alternative Technology Association.

This year the grants will be awarded under the following categories:

  • National Award: An environmental project with national significance and impact;
  • Regional Award: An environmental project based in a regional area with a regional impact;
  • Grassroots Award: A community group with an income of $25,000 or less;
  • Youth Award: A project led by an individual under 25 years of age.

Applications for this year’s program can be made through the Canon Australia website – www.canon.com.au/envirogrants
