Canon Support for Mac OS X 10.7 (Lion)

Consumer Inkjet and Scanner Products

Important: Some older versions of Canon drivers will function with limitations on Mac OS X 10.7. Therefore it is recommended that you perform one of the following on Mac OS X 10.6 prior to updating to Mac OS X 10.7.

• Software Update - On the Mac running Mac OS X 10.6, perform a Software Update so that the Canon Printer Software Update v2.6 is installed and updates your existing printer drivers.
• Manual Driver Removal - On the Mac running Mac OS X 10.6, open System Preferences > Print & Fax and remove your Canon printer or scanner. Then after you upgrade to Lion use Software Update to obtain the latest Canon driver from Apple.

The following Canon consumer devices have drivers that are included with the Canon Printer Software Update v2.6 and will be downloaded via Apple Software Update on Mac OS X 10.7.

Consumer Laser and Business Products

The following information applies to imageRUNNER, imageRUNNER Color, imageRUNNER ADVANCE, imagePRESS, LBP and MF devices.

The current UFRII v2.25, PS3 v3.31 and Fax v3.41 and earlier versions of drivers for Mac OS X 10.6 have limitations when used on Lion. Canon strongly recommends you avoid updating to Lion if you use one of the business products mentioned above with one of these drivers.

If you do update to Lion, please be aware of the following limitations;

All Drivers

• All print queues must be removed prior to installing Lion. Once the Lion installation is complete the driver queues can be created again
• Only the UFRII v2.25, PS3 v3.31 and Fax v3.41 drivers will intitially be supported with limitations on Lion. Earlier versions of drivers are not supported.
• The Canon PPD v3.10 and later is fully supported.

UFR2 v2.25

• Cannot print from Preview or TextEdit – causes applications to crash. For PDF documents, Canon recommends that the free version of Acrobat Reader is used.
• The following driver functions are not available
• Printer Information (Printer Info button)
• Job Accounting

PS3 v3.31

• When creating the print queue, you must select the Unidirectional communication setting. Selecting Bidirectional will cause operational issues.
• With Unidirectional print queues, the following driver functions are not available
• Printer Information (Printer Info button)
• Inbox Name information in Store function
• Overlay Printing including Clear Toner
• Paper information in Paper Type Settings dialog
• Job Accounting

FAX v3.41

• Cannot print from Preview or TextEdit – causes applications to crash.
• The following driver functions are not available
• FAX Cover Sheet
• FAX Address Book

EFI Print Controllers

The following information applies to the EFI Print Controllers connected to the imageRUNNER, imageRUNNER Color, imageRUNNER ADVANCE and imagePRESS business products.

Printer Drivers

Many of the EFI printer drivers currently available for Mac OS X 10.6 cannot be installed on Mac OS X 10.7. This is due to incompatibilities with the core printing system of Lion.

If you do upgrade to Lion from Snow Leopard, the existing Mac OS X 10.6 print driver will not function. It is therefore recommended that you remove the EFI driver prior to installing Lion on the Mac. After the installation is complete, you can use the Generic Postscript driver in the interim to print to the Canon device with an EFI print controller. Note that the Generic Postscript driver does not support A3 paper.

Fiery Express Driver

A common driver for many recent models of Fiery controllers, which is called "Fiery Express Driver", has been released as interim solution. The driver allows you to perform basic print functions in which some print settings can be changed. Please refer to the documentation included with the driver for installation and operation information.

Driver Update

An updated driver for each model will be released as a permanent solution. The driver will be an official driver to support Mac OS X 10.7. The target release schedule is approximately three months after Lion is officially released.

EFI Software

The latest version of Fiery utilities (Command Workstation v5.3, Fiery Remote Scan, Hot Folder v3.3) will install and operate on Mac OS X 10.7. Canon INC is currently evaluating the operation of these applications and will advise if any restrictions are detected.

Large Format Printers

Most of the iPF and W series software, including drivers, does not operate on Mac OS X 10.7. Therefore Canon recommends that an upgrade to Lion is not completed until the updated driver and software is available.

Camera and Video Products

The following information details the current compatibility of Canon digital SLR and digital compact cameras, digital video cameras and compact printers (Selphy) with Mac OS X Lion.

Connection to Mac - Digital SLR Cameras

• Not supported - These cameras employ the R-API connection method, which is not supported in OS X 10.6 or later.
• No - The message "Cannot be used with this version of the operating system" appears, and the camera cannot be connected with EOS Utility 2.10. Currently, we are considering workarounds for this issue.

Connection to Mac - Digital Compact Cameras

• All Digital Compact Cameras can be connected with Image Capture preinstalled in OS X 10.7.
• Model names for other regions shown in brackets.

  After the camera is connected, start CameraWindow manually, and both [Import Untransferred Images] and [Import All Images] are available.

Connection to Mac - Digital Video

• Thumbnail data is not displayed, so images cannot be selected.
• The applications do not start automatically after the camcorder is connected.

The compatibility was only evaluated for models that are available in all three formats of DOM, NTSC, and PAL. Region-limited models are not included in the above tables.

The iMovie09 and ImageCapture6.1 applications are made by Apple, so the operations are not guaranteed by Canon. (The tables above only show the evaluation results.)

Connection to Mac - CP (Selphy) Printer

The current OS X drivers are not compatible with 10.7. Driver update is under consideration.
