Canon backs up the PictBridge commitment with nine compatible printer models in 2nd half of 2003, with more to come in 2004?

Sydney, 11 December 2003 - Since announcing support for the global PictBridge digital camera direct printing standard in August 2003, Canon has strengthened its commitment by launching nine PictBridge compatible printers; the most recent of which includes the very affordable i455 Bubble Jet printer, retailing for $179 RRP inc. GST and the multi-card format compatible i475D Bubble Jet printer, retailing for $279 RRP inc. GST. The two models are successors to the previous i450 and i470D printers.
PictBridge is the industry standard technology for digital camera direct printing, allowing consumers to easily print to any PictBridge enabled printer regardless of brand. Users simply connect the PictBridge compatible digital camera or DV camera to the printer with a USB cable.

Equipped with PictBridge technology the i455 and i475D Bubble Jet printers offer a maximum 4800 x 1200 colour dpi with microscopic ink droplets thanks to Canon's precision print head design and construction using advanced MicroFine Droplet Technology. Utilising Canon's revolutionary nozzle system that ejects consistent, prescribed-volume ink droplets in sizes as small as 2 picolitres, these printers deliver professional photo quality results.
The i455 and i475D printers also feature true edge-to-edge borderless printing in 4" x 6", 5" x 7" and A4 sizes, and can easily serve as an every day, all-purpose printer with a top speed of up to 18 pages-per-minute (ppm) in black and up to 12 ppm in colour. The i455 and i475D printers use Canon's BCI-24 pigment-based Black ink cartridge for laser-like black text and Canon's BCI-24 colour cartridge for outstanding photo-quality results.
Among the significant technological advances featured in the i455 and i475D Bubble Jet printers, the i475D Bubble Jet printer has the added advantage of onboard multi-format media slots that permit direct printing from a wide variety of digital camera memory cards. This added compatibility makes the i475D the ideal choice for cost-conscious digital camera enthusiasts. Media formats supported by the i475D printer include CompactFlash, MicroDrive, SmartMedia, Memory Stick (excluding PRO) SD Card and Multimedia Card. Memory Stick Duo, xD PictureCard and mini SD Card can be used with the addition of a special adaptor sold separately.
The i475D Bubble Jet printer comes with a comprehensive Canon printer software bundle, including:
? Easy-PhotoPrint - designed to take advantage of Exif Print compatible digital camera images, making it easy to get great looking photo prints;
? Easy-WebPrint - simplifies the printing of Internet pages by scaling output so that information is not lost from the right hand margin of the page;
? ZoomBrowser EX - Easy to use image database and thumbnail viewer application (PC);
? PhotoRecord - Australian-developed software designed for creating electronic and printable photo albums (PC);
? ImageBrowser - combines features of ZoomBrowser and PhotoRecord for Macintosh users; and
? PhotoStitch - Creates panoramic scenes with just 3 mouse clicks (PC/Mac).
The i455 Bubble Jet printer includes Easy-PhotoPrint and Easy-WebPrint only.
The i455 and i475D Bubble Jet printers are compatible with Windows XP/2000/Me/98/95/ NT 4.0, Mac OS 8.6-9.x, Mac OS X v 10.2.1 to 10.2.x.
The i455 and i475D Bubble Jet printers are available from Canon resellers for $179 RRP and $279 respectively, including GST.
