New ScanFront220 provides innovative touch-screen scanning and comprehensive security features for small businesses and enterprises alike
Monday, 22 October 2007 - Canon, a leading provider of digital imaging solutions, today announced the new Canon ScanFront220 network scanning solution. The ScanFront220 is a sleek, simple-to-use network scanner that delivers diverse imaging functionality in a compact, networked console.
The ScanFront220 device provides the ability to preview captured images on its large touch panel, and offers the flexibility of scanning to email, a network folder, FTP site and even a USB memory stick. The device features a compact design that takes up less desk space than most competing models.
Available in Standard or Professional Edition models, the ScanFront220 incorporates a number of innovative Canon imaging features. The device offers a large 8.5-inch touch-panel control, USB port for the scan-to-USB function, personal and networked address books, as well as new security features including fingerprint identification (available on the Professional Edition). Both models feature Canon's proprietary feed mechanism capable of scanning a wide range of the documents, including thick documents, plastic cards, and driver's licenses.
"The Canon ScanFront220 stands at the forefront of scanning innovation, delivering a range of convenient features to satisfy real-world needs in one of the most practical and easy-to-use devices available," said Eduardo Klopstock, Product Marketing Specialist for Business Imaging Solutions Group, Canon Australia. "The device features the ability to scan to a wide range of output destinations, perfectly complementing many business workflows."
The large, colour touch-panel control on the Canon ScanFront220 device allows users to easily navigate functions as well as preview scanned images to ensure proper content is captured before sending. Better yet, the device is capable of scanning at up to 26 pages per minute for A4 documents, and can save to a number of file formats, including high-compression PDF, searchable PDF, and TIFF and JPEG images.
The ScanFront220 allows system administrators to remotely register individual users to the device and assign each user with access privileges. The remote administration enables IT staff to connect and centrally manage entire fleets of ScanFront220 devices through the network quickly and efficiently: a massive benefit for busy IT departments.
Security At Your Fingertips
Both the Standard and Professional Edition models offer user authentication via user ID and password, while the Professional Edition model also adds a fingerprint authentication sensor to further bolster security. Additional features of the Canon ScanFront220 include encrypted PDF sending for secure transmissions, and a detailed log to track outgoing transmissions. The device also has a secure memory wipe function to prevent the leak of classified information that could reside on the device. Furthermore, each user registered to the ScanFront220 has a defined "From Address", which can't be modified, and helps prevent spoofed e-mails being sent from the device. Both models provide network security through NTLM V2 protocol and support the Kerberos network protocol to identify and authenticate clients connecting to servers.
The new Canon ScanFront220 will be available through Canon and authorised Canon dealers, select distributors, and Canon resellers.
