Wishing to be Uncaged
The bird laments its freedom as it views the open window. To be free to join its brethren of the sky in flights of fancy. Instead its caged. Never to fly more than a couple of feet. Locked up for the entertainment of its captors.
Inspired in part by an old family friend who, when looking after our canary, would let him fly around the room as free as a bird could be considering the circumstance.
