T3 awards the EOS 30D five stars
I'LL RAISE YOU 10D

"Subtle improvements make this the prefect partner to SLR novices and pros alike."

Summary
Love Great images. Perfect flash control. Spot metering mode.
Hate Small, fiddly buttons. No built in CCD cleaner.
Overall Score Five Stars *****

Even in the lookey-likey world of SLR cameras, Canon's EOS 30D seems overly familiar. Take away the new badge and larger LCD screen and you could be looking at its predecessor, the EOS 20D.

In fairness to Canon, the 20D is a hard camera to follow, and the 30D does hide some other subtle improvements. For starters there's a spot metering mode, something curiously absent from its predecessor. Plus there's a wider range of ISO settings, which gives the creative photographer the required expansive control over exposure.

There's no increase in megapixels, however, but that's one area the 20D already had tapped. Picture quality matches anything the 10-megapixel Nikon D200 manages, and you're paying $600 less. And that's the most welcome change of all.

Specifications
Tech 8.2 megapixels, 2.5 inch LCD, pop-up flash, CF card, 9-point autofocus, 144x106x74, 700g
