Albany Senior High School (WA)
The Albany Senior High School Marine Science Project monitors fish and shellfish populations in estuaries and coastal embayments in the Albany area in response to the massive depletion of seagrass stocks in Albany's harbours during the 1970s. Many fish species have been shown to rely on these seagrasses for their continued existence.

Research completed over the past eight years by the school in conjunction with Edith Cowan University, the Department of Fisheries and the Department of Water Data has highlighted key research areas, which will be addressed in projects in 2009. These include the abundance and distribution of bivalve species, the impact of town jetty construction on fish ecology and seagrass health, and the colonisation of artificial seagrass by fish and invertebrates.

The Canon Grant will be used to obtain a High Definition digital video camera, compact digital still cameras and waterproof housings, which will allow the school to employ new sampling techniques, including underwater observation.
