The Dolphin Research Institute (DRI) is a not-for-profit organisation that has been researching for the past 17 years the dolphins that inhabit the Victorian coastline. DRI's mission is to ensure the wellbeing of dolphins and their marine environment through scientific research, marine education and community engagement partnerships.
The DRI has initiated a project to understand the local status and geographic spread of a skin disease that may be linked to dolphin deaths in the Gippsland Lakes. The DRI will report its findings to government, schools and the community with the aim of influencing management of and behaviours in the catchment.
The Canon Grant will be used to obtain the high-quality digital still and digital video cameras necessary to obtain the best photographic record of dolphin health and healing possible and to enable an effective community engagement program. |
