What is Real Widescreen?

Canon Real Widescreen is a revolution in home video that enables movies to be shot in high-resolution 16:9 aspect ratio, ensuring a perfect match to today's popular widescreen TVs.

It's also possible to shoot in traditional 4:3 mode, so you get the best of both worlds.

How does Real Widescreen work?

Unlike traditional widescreen systems which record in 4:3 format, then crop the image to fit on a widescreen TV, Canon DV Cameras simply capture more of the image. It's this extra 'horizontal resolution' that allows you to view your home movies in high quality true widescreen format.

What are the benefits of Real Widescreen?

When you shoot in Canon Real Widescreen, what you film is exactly what you see back on your widescreen TV.

Images are rich and sharp - just the way they were when you recorded them. And thanks to a wider angle of view, you capture more of your memories. Perfect if you have a widescreen television - or if you're planning to buy one in the future.
