the chains

There are 3 different types of photochains. Although they all function basically the same way, there are subtle differences that you should be aware of, because one type of chain may be more suitable for you than another.

Please note: The following descriptions refer to the ‘current chain owner’.
This is the photographer who submitted the most recent link in the chain.

1. 1. Hero Chain

   

   This is the main photochain which will always be growing. Anyone can submit their photograph to this chain. The next link in this chain will be determined every 3 weeks by public voting and a team of judges.

2. 2. public chains

   

   These chains are controlled by the public.
   Photochains members can create a chain from scratch as well as submit their photos to chains that have already been created by other photographers.

   The next link in these chains is decided on by the current chain owner, who chooses a photograph that they think best answers the challenge set by their ‘TAG’.

3. 3. private chains

   

   These are invite only. You can start a private chain with whoever you like but they will only be able to submit photos if they have been invited by the current chain owner.
