About the event:

Join Jenn Cooper from the Canon Collective for an introductory workshop on Underwater Photography and how to use underwater housings at Shelly Beach Manly. The season is warming up and there’s an underwater playground that awaits you… We will provide tips and tricks on underwater photography and the best techniques to care for your underwater equipment, such as the Canon G Series Compact Camera with underwater housings which will be available for you to use while you snorkel and explore Cabbage Tree Bay.

Cabbage Tree Bay is an aquatic reserve that aims to protect marine life and is rich for underwater photography. It covers a large area of approximately 20 hectares, from the southern end of Manly Beach, including the rocky shores and beaches, to the northern part of Shelly Beach.

The meeting point for this event is the carpark on Bower Street which is above Shelly Beach, we will distribute cameras then walk down to the beach.

We have a limited number of underwater housing so we will be working in a small group. This workshop is only for these who are confident strong swimmers, you will not be guided in the water and there are no lifeguard patrolling the area. Please do not book this event if you are concerned to swim in deep open water. BYO snorkel, fins, wetsuit (if required)

On completion of this course you will understand:

• How to set up underwater housings
• Equipment use and maintenance
• Underwater techniques required for great photography
• Tips and tricks to help you get the most out of your underwater photography
• Focus techniques
• Working with light and dealing with problems you might encounter
• Composition
