Join Jenn from the Canon Collective for an intermediate workshop on surf photography. In this session we'll discuss the best techniques, lens selection and shooting modes to capture the fast action before us.
Please note this event will be held on the sand and considerations should always be made when taking any camera equipment onto the beach.
This class will help you understand the fundamentals of using your camera for sports photography, including exposure, aperture and shutter speeds, ISO, focus controls, focus tracking, composition and more.
This class is perfect for those with an intermediate understanding photography and are confident in operating their camera. You’ll be learning outdoors on the beach (weather permitting), in a friendly environment, designed to teach not lecture. On completion of this course you will understand:
• How your camera works
• Focus techniques including tracking
• Sports photography tips
• Shutter speed and how it affects your images
• How to use the shutter priority setting
• ISO and how it is used in low light and sports photography
• Working with light and dealing with problems you might encounter
• RAW files (introduction)
• UV and Polarising Filters

DSLR Camera, longest telephoto lens we recommend 200mm and above, tripod, memory cards, fully charged batteries. A range of Canon lenses and bodies will be available to use on the day, please ensure you bring your own equipment also.
Meet on the Northern side of the SLSC closest cross street in Pine Street, Manly. Parking available at Manly Beach, we recommend reading the parking signs before leaving your car as most locations in Manly are metered parking.
A general fitness level is required. We recommend closed toe shoes for walking. As this event takes place outdoors, please be mindful of your surroundings.
