15 of the Best Canon Community Images from 2017

20th December 2017
It’s always tough to condense a whole year of images into one short gallery. Our social community turned up the heat this year, so it was going to be particularly hard.

So, this time we decided to do things a little differently, and hand the reigns over to the Canon community to choose.

Landscape image of mountains at shore
Hamnoy in the Lofoten Islands, Norway, is breathtaking with fishing villages nestled alongside pristine coastlines, all connected by narrow bridges. Behind, magnificent rugged mountains stand — like giants — dominating the landscape creating the most beautiful scenes to capture.

Landscape image of pink sunset
This is the most amazing sunrise I have witnessed and captured. It was a special day; the cloud formations were perfect when the sky exploded. Cotton Tree, Maroochydore, Queensland.

Landscape image of man on horse at rainbow
On this day I was sick and having a nap in my Ger on the Mongolian steppes. When my friends woke me up for dinner I saw the sky outside was doing something beautiful, so I forced my slightly broken body and camera outside. The stars, weather, and horses aligned for this miracle of a photo. Safe to say my terrible day completely turned around.

Landscape image of mine
I had been to this lookout many times before, but this time I was looking for something different. I wondered if I could catch the headlight trails in a long exposure, so I setup quickly and waited for the trucks to leave the portal at the bottom on the mine.

LAndscape image of Golden Gate bridge
This is my take on a classic location in San Francisco. It brings out the warm afternoon sunlight on the trees, while the bridge pops out in the middle.

Landscape image of two women crying
At the time I didn't know the history of the two women in this photo. The story goes: a mother adopted a three-year-old girl, and at the age of ten the girl was sent to Australia for better life. Twenty-five years later they meet again for her adopted daughters wedding day.

Landscape image of rainbow at beach
On my way to capture the sunset when I saw this stunning rainbow draped perfectly over Bondi Beach. Hastily made my way to the Bondi Icebergs to get the shot, and made it with 2 minutes to spare.

 Landscape image of pool beach
Although the sky lacked colour on this particular morning, it helped create a very different mood to your typical sunrise. A 10-stop neutral density filter was also used to help create this feel and add stillness to the photo. Bondi, Sydney.

Portrait image of dog in camera bag
When I got my new puppy, Moses, I knew I wanted to incorporate him into a picture with some camera gear. I have always enjoyed pictures of equipment organized neatly, so I thought it would be fun to place him in the midst of the gear while he was almost as small as a lens.

Landscape image of rockpools at sunset
Nature never ceases to amaze; Figure Eight Pools have to be seen to be believed. These incredible rock pool formations can only be accessed safely during low tide. After months of planning and waiting for the right low tide, swell and wind speed to all come together it was amazing to finally see this place with my own eyes.’

Landscape image of clouds ontop of mountain
After traveling along hours of rugged roads across the highlands , we finally got to our campsite underneath the moonlight. We fell asleep to the sound of wind blowing against my tent and woke up on this otherworldly landscape. Iceland is truly a marvel and I can’t wait to explore it once more.

Landscape image of man on mountain
Making it to Rainbow Mountain for sunrise was no easy feat. We started trekking at midnight and made it to the peak at 5am just in time. Definitely one of the most challenging things I have ever done.

Landscape image of Elephants around tree
During the dry season herds of elephants will travel far and wide across Tanzania’s central Serengeti in search of some reprieve from the harsh sun. With spots filling up quickly, and only a few trees dotting the landscape, it pays to be early.
