Issue
An error message appears and the scan fails.
The scanner driver is not displayed.
The same error appears even after the computer is restarted.
Cause and solution
The lock switch holding the scanning unit is not released completely.
Disconnect the interface cable from the scanner and release the lock switch completely.
Caution
1. Peel the orange tape off the scanner.
2. Open the document cover and slide the lock switch toward the unlock mark to release the lock.
3. Close the document cover.

The scanner driver is not installed correctly.
1. Check if the scanner is correctly selected in the application.
2. If the scanner is not listed in the application, the driver is not installed properly. Uninstall and reinstall the driver and then reconnect the scanner.
In this example, CanoScan LiDE600F will be selected in ArcSoft PhotoStudio.
1. Start ArcSoft PhotoStudio.
2. Select [Select Source] from the [File] menu.
3. Select your scanner model name (in this example, CanoScan LiDE600F) in [Select Source].
* If WIA-CanoScan LiDE 600F (scanner model name) is displayed, do not select it.
Caution
* If your Mac OS X is used with multiple users (accounts), log in as the first created administrator to install the software. You cannot install the software if you logged in with an added administrator account.
* The reinstallation will require to restart the computer in the process. Read this page carefully before reinstalling the driver.
1. Disconnect the USB cable from the scanner.
2. Uninstall the currently used scanner driver.
On Macintosh HD, open [Library], [ImageCapture], then [Twain Data Sources]. Drag and drop the [(your scanner name).ds] icon to the trash can icon.
3. Restart the computer.
The scanner driver is uninstalled.
In the next step, install the scanner driver after the computer is restarted.
4. Place the CanoScan Setup CD-ROM in the drive.
[CANOSCAN] Finder opens. Double-click the [Setup] icon in the finder.
5. If "Authenticate" screen is displayed, enter the administrator's (first created user) name and password and then click [OK].
6. Place the Setup CD-ROM in the drive.
When the initial screen for setting up is displayed, click [Custom Install].
7. Install the scanner driver from the Setup CD-ROM.
When the screen to select software is displayed, make sure that ScanGear is checked and remove the checkmarks of the other applications. Click [Next].
8. When the "License Agreement" screen appears, read it carefully and click [Yes].
9. The installation starts. The installation progress will be displayed until the Setup CD-ROM stops.
10. Click [Restart].
You cannot use the scanner unless you restart the computer.
11. After the computer is restarted, remove the Setup CD-ROM from the drive.
If the menu screen appears, click [Exit] and then remove the CD-ROM.
12. After the installation is completed, connect the scanner to the computer.
Caution
* Make sure that the lock switch is released.
* Connect the scanner to the computer with the supplied USB cable.
* The scanner may not work properly if the scanner is connected via USB hub. In this case, connect the scanner to the computer directly.
Caution
* If your Windows computer is used with multiple users, log in as an Administrator (System administrator) to install the software. Continue the installation if your computer is not used with multiple users. Refer to the manual or help of Windows for details.
* The reinstallation will require to restart the computer in the process. Read this page carefully before reinstalling the driver.

Click Start, point to [(All) Programs], ["Your scanner model name"], then click [Uninstall].

Cause and solution
The scanner may not be recognized by the computer.
1. Disconnect and reconnect the scanner.
* If the scanner is connected via USB hub, connect the scanner to the computer directly without hub.
* If your computer has multiple USB ports, connect the scanner to another port.
2. Restart the computer. The scanner may be recognized and work.
3. Check if the scanner is recognized or not and perform the following procedures.
Perform the following procedures to check if the scanner is recognized. If it is not, reinstall ScanGear.
Make sure that the lock switch is released.
Connect the scanner to the computer with the supplied USB cable.
The connectors of USB cable have different shapes. Connect the wide flat connector of the USB cable to the computer, the small square one to the scanner.
Connect the supplied AC adapter to the scanner.
(1) Connect the supplied power cord to the AC adapter.
(2) Connect the AC adapter to the scanner.
(3) Plug the power cord into the electrical outlet.
Press the power switch to turn the power on.
Caution
Perform the following procedures to check if the scanner is recognized. If it is not, reinstall ScanGear.
Procedure A: Checking
Windows Vista:
1. Click [Start], then right-click [Computer], then select [Properties].
2. Select [Device Manager] in the task area.
Windows XP:
1. Click [Start], then right-click [My Computer] and then select [Properties].
2. Select [Device Manager] in the [Hardware] tab.
Windows 2000:
1. Right click [My Computer] and select [Properties] from the pulldown menu.
2. Select [Device Manager] in the [Hardware] tab.
If the scanner is recognized
Your scanner name is displayed under [Imaging devices].
If the scanner is not recognized
Your scanner name is not displayed. (CanoScan may be displayed under [Other devices]. )
Procedure B: Uninstalling ScanGear
1. Click the [Start] menu, followed by [(All)Programs], ["Your printer model name"] and [Uninstall] to uninstall ScanGear.
2. When a confirmation appears, click [Execute].
3. When all files are deleted, click [Complete].
ScanGear is deleted.
Procedure C: Reinstalling ScanGear
Insert the Setup CD-ROM in the drive. Select [Custom Install] to reinstall ScanGear.
Caution
For applications that are already installed, clear the checkboxes to the left. These applications will not be reinstalled.
Perform the following procedures to check if the scanner is recognized. If it is not, reinstall ScanGear.
Procedure A: Checking
Mac OS X 10.2.8:
1. Select [About This Mac] from the Apple menu.
2. Click [More Info...] in the window to start [Apple system profile].
3. Make sure that CanoScan is displayed on the [Devices and Volumes] tab.
Mac OS X 10.3/10.4:
1. Select [About This Mac] from the Apple menu.
2. Click [More Info...] in the window to start [System Profiler].
3. Select [Hardware] and then click [USB].
4. Make sure that CanoScan is displayed in [USB Device Tree].
Procedure B: Uninstalling ScanGear
1. On the hard disk, open [Library], [Image Capture], then [Twain Data Sources]. Then drag and drop the [(your scanner name).ds] icon to the trash can icon.
2. Restart the computer. ScanGear is deleted.
Caution
Log in as administrator to uninstall ScanGear. If your Mac OS X is used with multiple users (accounts), log in as the first created administrator. For details of administrator, refer to the manual of your computer.
Procedure C: Reinstalling ScanGear
Insert the Setup CD-ROM in the drive. Select [Custom Install] to reinstall ScanGear.
Caution
For applications that are already installed, clear the checkboxes to the left. These applications will not be reinstalled.
