Shooting in Various Scenes

The camera will select the necessary settings for the conditions in which you wish to shoot when you choose the matching mode.

Caution

Set the Shooting mode

1. Press the ⋖Power⋗ button of the camera.

2. Press the Up ⋖directional buttons⋗ button repeatedly until a shooting mode other than [ ] is displayed.

Press the ⋖FUNC./SET⋗ () button.

3. The following screen appears.

Touch the [Shooting Mode] * in the upper-left corner of the screen.

* If no changes have been made to the settings so far, The followings [shooting Mode] will be displayed.

[Program AE] ()

4. The following screen appears.

Operate the ⋖directional buttons⋗ left or right to select the [Shooting mode] you want ([Portrait] () is selected in the image shown above).

Press the ⋖FUNC./SET⋗ () button.

5. The following screen appears.

When the icon for the [Shooting Mode] you want appears in the top-right corner of the screen, the setting is complete.

Shooting Modes

	Discreet mode	[Discreet] ()	Shoot without activating camera sounds, the flash, or lamp. Use this mode where camera sounds, the flash, and lights are prohibited.
Adding Effects and Shooting	Shoot with the Effects of a Fish-Eye Lens	[Fish-eye Effect] ()	Lets you shoot with the distorting effect of a fish-eye lens.
	Take Shots That Look Like a Miniature Model	[Miniature Effect] ()	Blurs chosen portions in the top and bottom of an image to produce the effect of a miniature model.
	Shoot with the Effects of a Toy Camera	[Toy Camera Effect] ()	This effect darkens and blurs the corners of the image, and changes the overall color so that it looks like an image shot with a toy camera.
	Shooting in Monochrome	[Monochrome] ()	You can shoot images in black and white, sepia or blue and white.
	Shoot images with vivid colors	[Super Vivid] ()	Lets you take shots with vivid, intense colors.
	Take posterized shots	[Poster Effect] ()	Lets you take shots that look like an old poster or illustration.

Caution

In [Fireworks] () mode, attach the camera to a tripod to prevent the camera from moving and blurring the image. Also, when using the PowerShot A4000 IS / A3400 IS / A2400 IS mounted on a tripod, it is advisable to set the [IS Mode] to [Off] before shooting.

Since you may not achieve the expected results with images shot in [Super Vivid] (), [Poster Effect] (), [Fish-eye Effect] (), [Miniature Effect] () and [Toy Camera Effect] (), try taking some test shots first.

In [Low Light] () mode, the recording pixel count will be displayed as ().

In [Discreet] () mode, even playback sounds are muted. Sounds of camera operations are muted, and movie audio is also muted.
