Canon XF105/XF100 Professional Camcorder, Firmware Version 1.0.5.0 [Mac OS X]

Content Id: 0400170302

Description

Detail

Firmware Version 1.0.5.0 incorporates the following improvement:
1. Supports exFAT file system of CF cards over 128 GB, which decreases the waiting time required for accessing the card before being able to record footage.

Firmware Version 1.0.5.0 is for XF105 and XF100 camcorders with Firmware Version 1.0.0.0 to Version 1.0.4.0. If your camcorder's firmware is already Version 1.0.5.0, it is not necessary to update the firmware. Once the camcorder is updated to the latest version, it cannot be restored to a previous version.

Please update the bundled Canon XF Utility application to Version 1.3 or later so that video clips that are recorded with Firmware Version 1.0.3.0 or later can be correctly recognized by the application.

Preparations for the Firmware Update:
After the Firmware update has been performed, the camcorder's menu and custom picture settings will be reset. It is recommended that users save their menu and custom picture settings as settings data to an SD card, separate from the one that will be used to carry out the update, before starting update operations. This saved data can be loaded into the camcorder and the settings can be changed after the update has been completed. For further information on this, please refer to the section in the unit's Instruction Manual titled "Saving and Loading Camera Settings".

The downloaded folder contains the firmware (file name: VHA5.FIM / file size: 23,035,472 bytes), and instructions on the firmware update procedures (a PDF file in five languages: Japanese, English, French, Spanish and Simplified Chinese). Before starting the firmware update operations, please be sure to carefully confirm your understanding of these instructions.

The following items are required to perform this firmware update:
1. An XF105 or XF100 camcorder body
2. A computer (OS: Mac OS X)
OS Requirements: Mac OS X (10.7-10.9)
3. A 64 MB or higher-capacity SD memory card or an SDHC memory card (both commercially available)
4. An SD card reader/writer (commercially available) or an SD card slot built into the computer
5. A fully charged battery pack for the camera
6. Compact power adapter bundled with the camera
7. The firmware (the downloaded file)

Q1: What are the changes of Firmware Version 1.0.5.0?
A1:
The new firmware supports exFAT file system of CF cards over 128 GB, which decreases the waiting time required for accessing the card before being able to record footage, as compared with the waiting time using earlier versions of the firmware. With firmware version 1.0.4.0 or earlier, the FAT32 file system would be applied during formatting regardless of CF card capacity. If a high-capacity card (over 128 GB) was accessed, it would take approximately 20 seconds before recording was possible again. Firmware Version 1.0.5.0 supports the exFAT file system of CF cards over 128 GB, allowing for a shorter wait time of approximately five seconds. (Please note that CF cards with a capacity of less than 128 GB will be formatted to FAT32 as before.)

Important:
- When using exFAT-fomatted recording media with other devices (digital recorders, card readers, etc.), make sure that the external device is compatible with exFAT. For more information on compatibility, contact the computer, operating system or memory card manufacturer.
- If you use exFAT-formatted recording media with a computer OS that is not exFAT-compatible, you may be prompted to format the memory card. In such case, cancel the operation to prevent data loss.

Q2: How can I carry out a firmware update?
A2:
Please download the most recent firmware for this model from the Canon Web site and follow the procedure shown on the Web page to install it.
