Choosing the Subject to Focus On (Tracking AF)

Solution

You can choose the subject you want to focus on and shoot.

Shooting modes in which Tracking AF is possible

Caution

The following explanations are provided based on the assumption that the [Shooting Mode] is set to [Program AE] ().
[Servo AF] is set to [On].
The camera may not be able to track the subject if the subject is too small, moves too quickly or if the contrast between the subject and the background is too low.
[AF-Point Zoom] on the [ ] tab is not available.
Not available in [Macro] (), [Infinity] ().
The position and shape of the operation buttons, screens displayed, and setting items may differ according to the model you use.

1. Turn on the camera.


2. Press the ⋖⋗ button.


3. The following screen appears.

Press the ⋖⋗⋖⋗ buttons to select the [Shooting] () tab.

Press the ⋖⋗⋖⋗ buttons to set [AF Frame], then press the ⋖⋗⋖⋗ buttons to set [Tracking AF].

After making these settings, press the ⋖⋗ button.


4. The following window appears.


5. Aim the camera so that [ ] is on the desired subject, and then press the ⋖⋗ button.

- When the subject is detected, the camera beeps and [ ] is displayed. Even if the subject moves, the camera will continue to track the subject within a certain range.

- If no subject is detected, [ ] is displayed.


Caution

To cancel tracking, press the ⋖⋗ button again.

6. Press the shutter button halfway. [ ] changes to a blue [ ] which follows the subject as the camera continues to adjust the focus and exposure (Servo AF).


7. Press the shutter button all the way down to shoot.

- Even after your shot, [ ] is still displayed and the camera continues to track the subject.

Caution

The camera can detect subjects even if you press the shutter button halfway without pressing the ⋖⋗ button. After your shot, [ ] is displayed in the center of the screen.
If [Face ID]* is set to [On], names will not display when registered people are detected, but the names will be recorded in the still images. However, a name will display if the subject chosen to focus on is the same as a person detected with Face ID.
