Wireless LAN connection of your printer to an access point

Issue

Before connecting this printer to the network, confirm the following two items, (A) and (B).

(A) Access point or router (supporting IEEE802.11b/g/n)

An access point or router is a relay device which connects not only the Internet and network devices such as a computer or printer, but also one network device to another.

So, your access point or router must be properly set before you go to the next setup step.

(B) The computer to be used with the printer must be connected to the network.

In order to confirm whether the computer to be used with the printer is connected to the network, try to browse the Internet website from the computer.

Regarding the setup method and the functions of the access point or the router, refer to the instruction manual for the access point or the router you are using, or contact each manufacturer.
Regarding the setup method of the computer, refer to the instruction manual for the computer you are using, or contact its manufacturer.

Cause and solution

To use the printer in wireless connection, select the setup method first.

Easy Setup connection

In most cases, you can use the printer in wireless connection using this setup method.

Wireless Setup Using Standard Setup

Before Starting Wireless Connection Setup

Caution

Make sure that the printer is turned on.

If the power is on, the (white) POWER lamp (A) will be lit.

1. If the HOME button (B) on the printer is lit, touch the HOME button.

2. Flick the screen left or right, then tap the WLAN icon.

Tap [ Wireless LAN setup ].

The (blue) Wi-Fi lamp (C) lights up when wireless connection is enabled.

When the screen left above is displayed, go to the step 4.

When the screen right above is displayed, go to the step 5.

4. Tap [ To other connection methods ] on the printer.

5. Tap [ Standard setup ].

6. Tap your access point.

7. Either of the following screens should be displayed:

If [ Connected to the access point. ] appears on the printer, the network does not require a password.

8. Tap the screen.

9. Enter the network password (WEP key or passphrase).

Character entry is case-sensitive so be sure to confirm.

- Character Entry

You can enter the characters when the keyboard is displayed on the printer. Follow the procedure below.

(1) You can enter the characters when the keyboard is displayed on the printer's LCD.

Character entry is case sensitive.

: Tap to switch between "lower case letters" and "numbers and symbols."

: While letters of the alphabet appear, tap to switch between upper and lower case letters. While numbers and symbols appear, tap to switch symbol types.

: Tap to insert a space.

: Tap to delete the character at the cursor. Use to move the cursor to the target character.

(2) Tap the character you want to enter.

(3) Repeat 1 and 2 to enter the remaining characters.

10. Tap [ Apply ].

11. Make sure that the network password is correct.

Character entry is case-sensitive.

12. Tap [ OK ].

13. When the left screen appears, tap [ OK ].

The wireless LAN setup in the standard method is completed.

Install the software.

If an Error Screen Appears

The target access point is not detected.

Is the network device (router, etc.) turned on? If the network device is already turned on, turn it off, then turn it back on.

Multiple access points with the same name exist.

The message appears when multiple access points with the same name are found.

- When you have only one access point.

Select [ Use one AccessPoint only ], then tap [ OK ].

Select the MAC address of the target access point on the displayed screen.

For details on how to check the MAC address of the access point, refer to the access point manual or contact its manufacturer.

- When using multiple access points

Tap [ Use multiple AccessPoints ].

An unknown access point is displayed.

Access points in use nearby may also be detected.

The access point name is not displayed properly.

Access point names with double-byte characters are not displayed properly. However, they can be selected.

The access point name is not displayed automatically.

Refer to the access point manual or contact its manufacturer.

The network password is not displayed automatically.

Refer to the access point manual or contact its manufacturer.

When the security protocol is WPA/WPA2 and if "Failed to connect to the access point" is displayed

Make sure that the passphrase entered for the access point is correct.

When the security protocol is WEP and if "Failed to connect to the access point" is displayed

Make sure that the WEP key entered for the access point is correct. In addition, when using WEP key number 2, 3 or 4 of the access point, set to use WEP key number 1, or select a WEP key number by entering wireless connection settings of the printer directly.

Wireless LAN connection of your printer to an access point in the standard setup method

Cause and solution

WPS connection

When the access point or the router you are using supports the WPS function, you can use this setup method to connect the printer in a wireless connection.

Confirm that the access point or the router you are using has the WPS button.

Caution

There is the WPS mark on the access point or the router you are using if it supports the WPS function.

Wireless Setup Using WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup)

Before Starting Wireless Connection Setup

Caution

Make sure that the printer is turned on.

If the power is on, the (white) POWER lamp (A) will be lit.

1. If the HOME button (B) on the printer is lit, touch the HOME button.

2. Flick the screen left or right, then tap the WLAN icon.

Tap [ Wireless LAN setup ].

The (blue) Wi-Fi lamp (C) lights up when wireless connection is enabled.

When the screen left above is displayed, go to the step 4.

When the screen right above is displayed, go to the step 5.

4. Tap [ Start setup ] on the printer.

-⋗ Go to 8.

5. Tap [ WPS ].

6. Tap [ Push button method ].

7. Tap [ OK ].

8. Press and hold the WPS button on the access point.

For details on pressing the WPS button, refer to the access point manual.

9. Tap [ OK ] on the printer within 2 minutes.

The (blue) Wi-Fi lamp on the printer flashes while searching for or connecting to the access point.

10. When the left screen appears, tap [ OK ].

The wireless LAN setup using WPS is completed.

Install the software.

If an Error Screen Appears

Cannot connect. Connections are being attempted from multiple access points simultaneously.

The screen appears when connections are being attempted from multiple access points simultaneously. Wait for a while, then configure WPS settings again. Press the WPS button on only one access point.

Failed to connect.

The screen appears when an error occurs.

Check the access point settings, then configure WPS settings again.

Timeout error.

The screen appears when WPS setup was not completed within a specified time.

Is the network device (router, etc.) turned on? If the network device is already turned on, turn it off, then turn it back on.

Cannot connect with WPS.

Set up a wireless connection manually.

Wireless LAN connection of your printer to an access point using WPS

Cause and solution

Windows WCN connection

You can set up the wireless LAN connection using WCN (WCN-NET) of Windows 8, Windows 7, or Windows Vista.

Wireless Setup Using WCN (Windows Connect Now)

Before Starting Wireless Connection Setup

Caution

Make sure that the printer is turned on.

If the power is on, the (white) POWER lamp (A) will be lit.

1. If the HOME button (B) on the printer is lit, touch the HOME button.

2. Flick the screen left or right, then tap the WLAN icon.

Tap [ Wireless LAN setup ].

The (blue) Wi-Fi lamp (C) lights up when wireless connection is enabled.

When the screen right above is displayed, go to the step 5.

4. Tap [ To other connection methods ] on the printer.

5. Tap [ WPS ].

6. Tap [ PIN code method ].

When the right screen appears, write down the PIN code.

- Windows 7

(1) From the [ Start ] menu of the computer, select [ Computer ].

(2) Select [ Network ].

- Windows 8

(1) Right click on the [ Start ] screen of the computer.

(2) Click [ All apps ] in the App bar.

(3) Select [ Computer ].

(4) Select [ Network ].

- Windows Vista

(1) From the [ Start ] menu of the computer, select [ Network ].

8. Select [ Add a wireless device ] on the menu or [ Add devices and printers ] on the Network menu.

9. Follow the on-screen instructions on the computer to proceed with setup, then enter the PIN code.

10. When the left screen appears, tap [ OK ].

The wireless LAN setup using WCN is completed.
