Shooting in Various Scenes

The camera will select the necessary settings for the conditions in which you wish to shoot when you choose the matching mode.

Caution

Set the Shooting mode

1. Turn on the camera.

2. Set the ⋖Mode Dial⋗ to ⋖SCN⋗ ().

Caution

If you want to add effects to images when shooting, set the ⋖Mode Dial⋗ to ⋖Creative Filters Mode⋗ (). Subsequent procedures are the same as described below.

3. Press the ⋖FUNC./SET⋗ () button.

4. The following screen appears.

Operate the ⋖directional buttons⋗ up or down to select [Shooting Mode] * .

* If no changes have been made to the settings so far, [Portrait] will be displayed.

Operate the ⋖directional buttons⋗ left or right to select [Shooting mode]. (The [Low Light] () setting is selected in the image shown above.)

After the selection is made, press the ⋖FUNC./SET⋗ button ().

5. The following screen appears.

When the icon for the [Shooting Mode] you want appears in the top-right corner of the screen, the setting is complete.

Shooting Modes

		Shoot evening scenes without using a tripod	[Handheld NightScene]*1 ()	Shoot with minimal camera shake and subject blur even in low-light conditions.
		Shoot under water	[Underwater]*2 ()	Natural-colored shots of sea life and underwater scenery, when you use an optional waterproof case. This mode can correct white balance and match the effect of using a commercially available color-compensating filter
		Shoot under low light	[Low Light]*3 ()	Shoot with minimal camera shake and subject blur even in low-light conditions.
		Shoot with snowy backgrounds	[Snow] ()	Bright, natural-colored shots of people against snowy backgrounds.
		Shoot fireworks	[Fireworks] ()	Vivid shots of fireworks.
	Adding Effects and Shooting	Shooting High Contrast Scenes	[High Dynamic Range]*1 ()	The camera takes 3 successive shots at different brightness settings, then selects and combines the areas with the best brightness into one image. This lets you reduce highlight blowout and loss of details in shadowed areas commonly found in high contrast scenes.
		Shooting with Faded Colors	[Nostalgic]*2 ()	This effect fades the colors and roughens the image so that it looks like an old photograph. You can choose from 5 effect levels.	Shooting with a Fish-Eye Lens Effect	[Fish-eye Effect]()	Shoot with the distorting effect of a fish-eye lens.
		Shots Resembling Miniature Models	[Miniature Effect] ()	Creates the effect of a miniature model, by blurring image areas above and below your selected area.
		Shooting with a Toy Camera Effect	[Toy Camera Effect]()	This effect makes images resemble shots from a toy camera by vignetting(darker, blurred image corners) and changing the overall color.
		Shooting With a Soft Focus Effect	[Soft Focus Effect]*1 ()	This function allows you to shoot images as if a soft focus filter is attached to the camera. You can adjust the effect level as desired.
		Shooting in Monochrome	[Monochrome] ()	Shoot images in black and white, sepia, or blue and white.
		Shooting with Color Accent	[Color Accent]*1 ()	Choose a single image color to keep and change other colors to black and white.
		Shooting with Color Swap	[Color Swap]*1 ()	You can replace one image color with another before shooting. Note that only one color can be replaced.
		Shoot in vivid colors	[Super Vivid]()	Shots in rich, vivid colors.
		Posterized shots	[Poster Effect] ()	Shots that resemble an old poster or illustration.

Caution

Subjects appear larger in [Handheld NightScene] () mode compared to other modes.

In [Handheld NightScene] () and [Underwater]() modes, shots may look grainy because the ISO speed is increased to suit the shooting conditions.

Because the camera will shoot continuously in [Handheld NightScene] () mode, hold it steady while shooting.

In [Handheld NightScene]() mode, excessive camera shake or certain shooting conditions may prevent you from obtaining the desired results.

In [Fireworks] () mode, attach the camera to a tripod to prevent the camera from moving and blurring the image. Additionally, you should set [IS Mode] to [Off] when shooting with a tripod.

In [Low Light] () mode, the recording pixel setting will be fixed at ().

In [High Dynamic Range]() mode, any subject movement will cause images to look blurry. There will be a delay before you can shoot again, as the camera processes and combines the images.

In [Color Accent]() and [Color Swap]()modes, using the flash may cause unexpected results.

Since you may not achieve the expected results with images shot in [Smooth Skin](), [Super Vivid] (), [Poster Effect] (), [Fish-eye Effect] (), [Miniature Effect] (), [Nostalgic] (), [Soft Focus Effect] (), [Color Accent] (), [Color Swap] (), and [Toy Camera Effect] () modes, try taking some test shots first.
