EPEAT

Canon EPEAT Certification
Canon offers products that are registered in accordance with EPEAT for Imaging Equipment.

Every EPEAT-registered product must undergo verification by an independent third party to ensure it meets the ecolabel standards, adding an essential layer of credibility. With EPEAT, customers are able to easily identify and select environmentally preferable products.
EPEAT 1.0

How does an imaging device become EPEAT registered?

To be added to the EPEAT registry, an imaging device must meet at least 33 required environmental performance criteria. Products may achieve higher ratings by meeting some or all of 26 additional optional criteria. The rating criteria were developed during a four-year stakeholder consensus process that involved hundreds of representatives from the environmental, research, governmental and manufacturing sectors.

EPEAT-registered imaging products meet an extensive list of environmental lifecycle-based criteria. Products are registered as EPEAT Gold/ EPEAT Silver/ EPEAT Bronze. The tier level is based on the percentage of points available from optional EPEAT criteria that are achieved by the product.

  • Materials with special handing needs (4.3.3.1 and 4.3.4.1)

Within one year of equipment being placed on the market, Canon provides all reuse and recycling facilities an end-of-life (EOL) characterisation report.

EOL characterisation reports provide information for identifying the presence and location of all materials and components exhibiting hazardous characteristics or requiring special handling within a product. These reports also contain guidance for the effective processing of the materials identified in Directive 2002/96/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council on Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Annex II.

The EOL characterisation reports for all Canon EPEAT-registered* products are available here:

EPEAT Climate+

The Global Electronics Council (GEC) EPEAT published Climate Criteria on May, 2023 that will be applied to the Computers and Displays, Imaging Equipment, Mobile Phones, Servers and Televisions categories. EPEAT-registered products will be required to meet these Climate Criteria by the end of 2025. Third-party verification experts approved by GEC ensure that all required Climate Criteria have been met, bringing the highest level of credibility to the EPEAT Climate+ designation.

The EPEAT Climate+ designation was earned by some of Canon’s EPEAT registered printing products, specifically MFDs, in Australia.
