What is Dodging?

The Basics:

Dodging is the technique of forcefully making an area of an image lighter in post-processing. It originated in darkroom processing, where parts of an image were covered during processing to reduce their exposure to the photo paper, making those areas appear lighter in the processed image. This effect can now be conducted in modern post-processing software such as Lightroom.
