Please be informed of the information outlined below regarding firmware for the EF 400mm f/2.8L IS III USM and EF 600mm f/4L IS III USM interchangeable lenses for digital SLR cameras.

Note: Firmware version 1.0.8 being released at this time is for lenses equipped with firmware version 1.0.7. The lens firmware version can be checked in the camera’s menu.


Details

Firmware version 1.0.8 incorporates the following correction.

Correction:
Corrects the phenomenon whereby, during movie shooting, when attached to certain EOS DSLR cameras*1 with the camera’s shooting mode set to M or Av mode, some exposure flicker may happen.

In order to update the lens’ firmware you must use a certain camera.

EOS Kiss X9i/EOS Rebel T7i/EOS 800D, EOS Kiss X9/EOS REBEL SL2/EOS 200D,
EOS Kiss X8i/EOS REBEL T6i/EOS 750D, EOS Kiss X7i/EOS REBEL T5i/EOS 700D,
EOS Kiss X7/EOS REBEL SL1/EOS 100D, EOS Kiss X6i/EOS REBEL T4i/EOS 650D,

Note that to use an EOS R or EOS M series camera to update the lens’ firmware, a mount adaptor is required.

Note: If you are not able to perform the firmware update, please contact Canon Customer Service Center.


Workaround

In the interim, during movie shooting, please perform the workaround procedures below to prevent the occurrence of this phenomenon.

Extender Type Workaround
Lens only No extender For movie shooting, set the camera according to options (1) or (2) listed below.
(1) In the camera’s Custom Functions, set the exposure level increments to 1/2-stop or 1-stop. (*The possible values that can be set vary depending on the camera model.)
(2) Set the camera’s shooting mode to P or Tv mode.
Lens with Extender Extender EF1.4× For movie shooting, set the camera’s shooting mode to P or Tv mode.
Extender EF2× For movie shooting, set the camera according to options (1) or (2) listed below.
(1) In the camera’s Custom Functions, set the exposure level increments to 1/2-stop or 1-stop. (*The possible values that can be set vary depending on the camera model.)
(2) Set the camera’s shooting mode to P or Tv mode.
