Canon's first ever A2 printer has been released

22nd October 2015
Canon Australia today unveils the imagePROGRAF PRO-1000, a new professional-grade photo printer designed for anyone with a passion for photography and print, from enthusiast to professional photographers. For the first time Canon is offering a professional A2 desktop printer which enables photographers to finish their craft in the highest quality possible. Delivering exceptional quality, the PRO-1000 ensures printing accuracy, efficiently and simplifies workflow.

Leveraging Canon’s professional photography heritage, the PRO-1000 features Canon’s signature red line, which has been the mark of excellence across the Canon camera system, signifying superiority and professional quality.

Professional, high-quality printing
The exceptional quality prints of the imagePROGRAF PRO-1000 is attributed to the newly developed Lucia Pro Ink and combination of colours utilised. This unique 12-ink pigment-based system delivers an expanded colour gamut, smooth gradations and greater expression in dark areas. Comparing the colour gamut to the highly acclaimed PIXMA PRO-1, the imagePROGRAF PRO-1000 will deliver a colour volume rate of 110% of the PIXMA PRO-1 on Lustre Paper and up to 119% on Matte Papers, showing true versatility by delivering exceptional results on all media types.

The LUCIA PRO inks include a photo black, matt black, grey and photo grey, which ensure professional-quality monochrome prints with increased black density and dynamic range compared to existing PIXMA PRO and Canon Large Format Printers.

The specialised Chroma Optimizer ink is included to ensure that bumps between the ink droplets are minimised and users will achieve uniform glossiness. This regulates the surface reflection to keep colours natural in prints and prevents a bronzing effect.

Silicon oil has been added to the new LUCIA PRO ink to improve abrasion resistance. This helps prevent the printed surface from being scratched, which makes it easier to print out in large volumes, carry and exhibit printed matter.

Accuracy and efficiency
Every effort has been made in development and production to ensure that users will obtain a new level of efficiency from their printing. A newly developed 1.28” print head, approximately 1.5x larger than the print head of the PIXMA PRO-1, helps to deliver outstanding quality prints up to A2 in approximately just six minutes . The print head was also developed to ensure that each ink has its own line. While common to Canon Professional grade printers, this feature is critical to ensure that time is not wasted switching between Photo and Matte Black inks and ink is not wasted through excess purging.

Incorporating a new L-COA PRO Image Processing System, the imagePROGRAF PRO-1000 ensures the correct balance and mixture of inks, with precise ink droplet placement, reducing processing time to further enhance printing efficiencies.

The new Lucia PRO Inks are available in 80ml cartridges which means fewer replacements required, less down time and greater cost per page efficiencies. The imagePROGRAF PRO-1000 also incorporates technology that ensures professional results are produced every time. Prints will be precise with the inclusion of an advanced paper feeding and roller system, which detects and corrects when paper is not feeding straight, and a vacuum air feeding system which reduces paper movement in the printing process. In addition to this, non-firing nozzle detection has been built into the print head, resulting in the elimination of banding from prints, as alternate nozzles will take the place of blocked nozzles.

Simplify your workflow
The imagePROGRAF PRO-1000 enables professionals to use Canon’s Print Studio Pro plugin to print quickly from a range of advanced editing software suites, such as Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom. Employing a vast range of connectivity options, the imagePROGRAF PRO-1000 also enables users to print wirelessly from a range of devices including laptops, PCs, tablets, smartphones and cameras. Additionally, cloud printing support means photos stored in popular online storage services, such as Dropbox and Google Drive, can be printed directly. By integrating into existing professional workflows, the imagePROGRAF PRO-1000 makes it easier for photographers to print their photos accurately and efficiently.

With the ability to select from Canon media and 16 types of Canon approved ICC profiles for 3rd party papers, including glossy, semi-glossy and matte up to 400gsm, the new printer gives users the freedom to select the specific paper to meet their artistic needs. The printer also features A2 cut sheet support, producing high-quality prints up to 17”.

Availability
The imagePROGRAF PRO-1000 will be available from December 2015. Prices will be set at dealer discretion.
