What is a Bracket Flash?

The Basics:

A bracket flash – not be confused with Flash Bracketing - is a where an external Speedlite flash has been mounted to a metal bracket or arm. The bracket itself, known as a flash bracket, typically attaches to the tripod socket of the camera. To fire the Speedlite flash, you need to use an off camera cord.

Photographers sometimes opt for flash brackets when shooting sideways, as it keeps the flash in an upright or vertical position and reduces the chance of inaccurate shadows.
