Sydney, Australia, 05 April 2017 – Canon Australia has announced that it has been nominated in the internationally renowned Webby Awards in the Social – Best Photography & Graphics category. Canon Australia was selected from more than 13,000 entries, from more-than 70 countries worldwide.
The Webby Awards’ Social – Best Photography & Graphics category recognises social media experiences that prominently feature the use of photography or incorporate the use of graphics. Canon Australia has been nominated alongside global channels of Red Bull, National Geographic and Nike’s Jordan Brand. As a Webby Nominee, Canon Australia has been singled out as one of the five best in the world, and among the top 9% of all work entered.

The Canon Australia Instagram channel is the company’s largest and fastest growing community, comprising 100% user-generated content. This has led to a follower growth of 200,000 people within just two years. To celebrate the community, Canon Australia also develops an annual coffee-table book showcasing photographers featured on the channel.
Recognising the work of community members across the Canon Australia channels has been key to engagement and follower growth. In 2016 alone, Canon Australia featured approximately 1500 photographers from all walks of life across Facebook, Instagram and Twitter, leveraging user-generated content to build engagement and relationships with the brand. Also growing strongly, Canon Australia’s YouTube channel had 6.9M views which equates to a viewing time of 15-million minutes (29 years and 172 days).
The Webby Awards, hailed by the New York Times as the “Internet’s highest honour,” is the leading international awards organisation honouring excellence on the Internet, including Websites, Film & Video, Advertising, Media & PR, Mobile Sites & Apps, Social, and Podcasts & Digital Audio.

Canon Oceania is today opening submissions for its 2022 Grants Program. This year, the company has introduced a new sub-category to its community grant, to specifically support the recovery of flood-affected businesses and community organisations following the recent devastating floods in Queensland and New South Wales.
