Microsoft will release Windows 8 on 26 October 2012. The following information details the support for Microsoft Windows 8 for Canon products.
Consumer Inkjet and Scanner Products
The following consumer inkjet, including All In One devices, and scanner products released in 2006 and later will have supporting drivers for Windows 8. For many devices released in 2009 and later, a supporting printer driver and/or scanner driver will be included with Windows 8.

The CAPT driver for selected models of LBP devices will be available from early November. The driver version will be 20.85.
Utilities
The following utilities for Windows 7 have been tested on Windows 8 RTM and determined to function correctly.

- WIA Network ScanGear 2
- MF ScanGear
EFI Print Controllers
Canon is yet to finalise its support schedule for the EFI print controllers used by the imageRUNNER and imagePRESS devices. As soon as we know the schedule, we will post this information.

Large Format Printers
The following recommendations and limitations should be observed for owners of Canon iPF large format printers.
Any model of iPF released before 2006 will not be supported on Windows 8. Therefore only the following models of iPF will have supporting printer drivers and utilities.

Note that for an existing version of Windows already printing to one of the iPF models listed above, it is recommended to update the printer driver to the latest v4.16 before upgrading Windows 8.
Limitations
- The Extra Kit does not operate for models earlier than 2008
- Driver user interface (UI) cannot be opened from Metro applications
- Media Configuration Tool (MCT) cannot be installed. Need to use Compatibility mode to install
